They might well have stopped the race had it not been for the intervention of the police, but why on earth should a few representatives of a tiny minority be allowed to  interfere with the perfectly legal  activities of the greater majority?

It would not be so bad if their basic philosophy were not based on a total misrepresentation of the truth or, to put it more succinctly, a flat out lie.

This particular mob – they are not being given the oxygen of publicity by being named – opine that horse racing is cruel. There is  little evidence to support this and a great deal of facts to support the opposite view.

However, be that as it may, the point is that even small, misguided  minority groups have a right to protest in the UK and it is an activity jealously guarded by all  BUT THEY DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO INTERFERE WITH OTHER PEOPLE’S RIGHTS.  It is the right of  all citizens to go about their lawful occasions without let or hindrance and anyone so doing should be punished severely.

The miscreants should be hauled before a court and face a minimum mandatory sentence of one year, more if their behaviour and its results warrant it.  This could be suspended, at the discretion of the court, for one year, meaning if they pull the same stunt again within a year they’ll be slammed up for the period of the original sentence.
