BBC – FAKE EXCUSE FOR FAKE NEWS
If it wasn’t so condemnatory, BBC Radio Four’s news output (see ***) after the PM announced a well trailed hike in National Insurance with little adverse comment or resistance from his back benchers, would be funny.
Day after day, Corporation journalists – particularly on the Today programme – had been warning of all out civil war between Boris Johnson and Tory MP’s if there was any attempt to go back on election promises and mess with taxes or National Insurance.
Quoting unnamed “sources” for the most part, they were excitedly warning there would be the biggest arse kicking from back benchers Westminster has ever seen.
For the uninitiated, “sources” or the even more misleading “sources close to (name here) ” means what the chat is among fellow hacks full of Fullers in the Red Lion pub in Parliament Street or, more likely, cautious Members in the Strangers Bar in The House opining that they don’t know which way to jump and being misquoted.
IN THE END, JUST FIVE TORY MP’s VOTED AGAINST THE NEW TAX. The recalcitrant five had been constantly referred to by BBC journalists and their names used to enhance the validity of ludicrous claims that there were many, many more ready to stick the knife in.
When there was no blood on the carpet when the tax increase was put to Parliament the dodgy hacks of the Beeb had the answer of course. They said that their “sources” had changed their minds! Would you believe it? How could people who didn’t exist change their minds. Or, in the unlikely event that they did exist but hadn’t actually made up their minds, likewise change their minds?
There were other news organisations guilty of twisting the facts regarding Conservative MP’s opposition to Tory tax plans but most of us want to believe Auntie so we still listen. Yet, once again BBC journalism sank to the level of other news outputs and publications and went down the drain. Having broadcast hours of fake news, they came up with a fake excuse for fake news. Game, set and match.
